Rooted in the long history of Filipinos’ struggle for land justice, the Land Rights Literacy Training for CHR gathered representatives of the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) from Central and Regional Offices to strengthen their understanding of land rights as human rights. Anchored on international standards and national laws such as CARL and IPRA, the two-day event examined key land governance issues, including insecure tenure, legal conflicts, displacement, and environmental degradation. Organized by the CHR through its CSJHP and HRDD, in partnership with ANGOC and KAISAHAN under the EU-funded Land Justice Initiative (LJI), the training enhanced CHR’s capacity to monitor compliance, address violations, and promote rights-based land governance. Ultimately, the activity reaffirmed that land is not merely property, but a source of livelihood, identity, and dignity—and that advancing land rights is central to social justice.
