Land as Human Rights

This publication is the second part to the highlights of the regional workshop on “Land Rights as Human Rights: An Imperative towards the Realization of the Sustainable Development Goals” held on 24-25 November in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. It features the challenges, mechanisms and initiatives on mainstreaming land right as a human right in South East and South Asia.
This issue of Lok Niti also presents the struggles and challenges indigenous peoples face in the light of rising global capital and investments on their lands and territories; and the land disputes monitoring studies providing the context of land-related conflicts resulting to land rights violations in Cambodia, Indonesia and the Philippines.
In recognition that the private sector can profoundly impact the human rights of employees, consumers, as well as communities, this publication provides an overview of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, a set of guidelines for States and companies to prevent and address human rights abuses committed in business operations.
