XSF-ANGOC-GLTN trains local enumerators on STDM

Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines – The Xavier Science Foundation, Inc. (XSF) in partnership with the Asian NGO Coalition for Agrarian Reform and Rural Development (ANGOC) and the Global Land Tool Network (GLTN) facilitated the three-day training of 27 local enumerators on the use and application of the Social Tenure Domain Model (STDM) on February 21-23, 2019 held at the Philippine Library Materials Project Foundation Building, Manresa Complex, Cagayan de Oro City. An on-site practical application of household survey enumeration was conducted in Barangay Lirongan, Municipality of Talakag, Bukidnon.

The identified local enumerators of the Nagkahiusang Manobong Manununod sa Yutang Kabilin (NAMAMAYUK), Portulin Talaandig Tribal Association (PTTA) and the Miarayon-Lapok-Lirongan-Tinaytayan Talaandig Tribal Association (MILALITTRA) have taken crucial step by step understanding of the household survey questionnaire which will be used during actual enumeration and how the information and data acquired will be installed using the STDM software. More than the technical skills, the enumerators were also given practical tips and protocols in doing field enumerations.   Application of the technical knowledge and skills were manifested through an on-site practicum activity where they visited houses, interviewed respondents and applied mapping activity using the GPS devices and cameras for documentation. An oral and written evaluation was instrumental in gauging the lessons learned by the local enumerators as they embark on the challenge to facilitate actual enumerations next month. The STDM training program is part of the project initiated by the three – XSF, ANGOC, and GLTN as proponents on improving tenure security of smallholder farmers, it is particularly implemented in the areas of Pangantucan and Talakag in the province of Bukidnon, Northern Mindanao. The pro-poor, gender-responsive, and participatory land information system tool would allow land and tenure issue documentation empowering local communities to ensure access and security of tenure.
