ANGOC member networks and partners work in 14 Asian countries with an effective reach of some 3,000 NGOs and community-based organizations (CBOs). ANGOC actively engages in joint field programs and policy debates with national governments, intergovernmental organizations (IGOs), and international financial institutions (IFIs).

OBJECTIVES OF THE INTERNSHIP AND VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

  • To provide the opportunity for students and the youth to contribute towards the work of the ANGOC while achieving their respective learning and/or advocacy objectives; and,
  • To enable partnerships with the academe and youth/student groups on building awareness on the land and resource rights, and smallholder agriculture and sustainable farm systems policy agenda of the ANGOC

ANGOC does not provide financial support, i.e. salary, honorarium, board and lodging.

ANGOC shall respond within 5 working days on the request for internship or volunteer work. Arrangements shall be discussed and agreed upon through an appropriate method (face-to-face interview, call, e-mail, skype call, etc).

The ANGOC is open to remote or stay-at-home arrangements on an output basis.

Qualifications. Intern/Volunteer must be:

  • Proficient in written and verbal in English;
  • Has working knowledge on land and resource rights, and/or small holder agriculture and sustainable farm systems;
  • Has basic knowledge on history and culture of Asia;
  • Good networking, teamwork, and interpersonal skills;
  • Social media savvy;
  • Innovative, flexible, result-oriented, and pro-active; and,
  • Good adaptive ability in working with other cultures.

ON THE JOB ACTIVITIES

Orientation. The ANGOC shall be providing an orientation on its history, structure, personnel, work, current programs/projects, and culture to the intern/volunteer. During the orientation, the intern/volunteer/s shall also present to the ANGOC their learning objectives, agreed engagement arrangements, and their personal expectations from the ANGOC.

The intern/volunteer shall jointly craft a work plan with ANGOC given his/her learning objectives, agreed engagement arrangements, and personal expectations. The work plan shall be discussed in plenary with the ANGOC Executive Director and/or designated supervisor.

Areas of Work. Currently, the ANGOC shall engage the intern/volunteer on:

  • Policy Research and Advocacy
  • Events management
  • Knowledge Management and Communications
  • Program/Project Development

Reporting. At the end of the program, the intern/volunteer shall submit a written report to be presented to the ANGOC staff. The report shall contain their accomplishments based on their work plan and assess the attainment of their learning objectives. They shall also be asked to reflect on the level of their contribution to the ANGOC policy agenda: land and resource rights; and/or smallholder farmers and sustainable farming system.

If the intern/volunteer will work with the ANGOC for 2 months or longer, they shall be asked to provide a monthly report on their accomplishments based on their work plan and assessment of the attainment of their learning objectives.

A minimum of 200 hours of internship/volunteer engagement shall be required by the ANGOC for admission to the program.
